Easy Guide to Birthstone Jewelry

Your birthstone says a lot about you, similar to your astrological sign. The month of your birth can have an impact on your personality and the characteristics that you exhibit as a person. Since each birthstone is a different gem, it makes for a highly-personalized piece of jewelry that often carries significant sentimental value.

January: GARNET
Those born in January have Garnet as their birthstone and it is a strong stone to start a new and better year! Garnets are particularly used in birthstone jewelry as a fiery red shade like red and orange, even though they can be found in various colors. Garnets are known to boost energy and people who are born in January value loyalty and usually serve as the protectors of a group. 

 

February: AMETHYST
Amethyst is a stone that stands out due to its beautiful purple color, although it can be found in lighter lavender shades too! Amethysts are thought to ward off evil and promote health and peace. People born with an Amethyst birthstone are thought to be honest and brave.

 

March: AQUAMARINE
Aquamarine stones got their name from being the color of the sea and come in a variety of shades of blue/green. The stone is known as the “Treasure of Mermaids” and was worn by many seamen as a way to protect them from the dangers of the sea. People born with an Aquamarine birthstone prioritize family and love. 

 

April: DIAMOND
Diamonds are a common stone among all jewelry wearers. They are often associated with glamour, weddings and engagement rings! The diamond is deemed as the “King of Birthstones” and comes in a variety of colors. Diamonds hold significant meaning and increase inner strength, balance and are a symbol of eternal love. 

 

May: EMERALD
The presence of vanadium and chromium are what make the emerald a vibrant green! They pretty much can pull off any jewelry setting and make the piece look elegant and tasteful. Emeralds are thought to promote health and fertility. People born in May are thought to have heightened intelligence, wit and perseverance.


June: ALEXANDRITE
 Alexandrite is the birthstone for June and is extremely rare and does not share the ancient history of most other stones since it was actually first discovered in the 19th century. Alexandrite is the rare variety of the mineral chrysoberyl that changes color in different lighting and an intense purplish red depending on the light source. Alexandrite is thought to bring luck, love and good fortune.


July: RUBY
Rubies are known for royalty because of their rich red color. Rubies tend to be more vibrant in color than garnets and can be found in shades of bright red and even soft shades of pinkish-red. Rubies are seen as a sign of power, and make a bold statement when adorned on a piece of jewelry. People with rubies as their birthstone are thought to be charismatic and outgoing. 


August: PERIDOT
Peridot is known as one of the most ancient gems in the world! Colorwise, Peridot can be found in varying hues of yellowish-green and is known as the “Gem of the Sun”. Peridot is thought to keep away depression, anxiety and general evil. Unlike diamonds, this gem is rarely worn by those who weren't born in August which makes this gem extra special and unique.  


September: SAPPHIRE
Sapphire is the most popular birthstone of all the blue hues! It’s beautiful deep blue definitely stands out when on any piece of jewelry, especially silver or platinum metals! Sapphires are associated with dignity, honesty and strength. The sapphire comes in a rainbow of colors, however blue is the most popular color! 

 

October: TOURMALINE
Tourmaline actually gets its pink hues from natural radiation, even though the gem's color range is quite varied. Tourmaline has been said to be a stone of reconciliation, one that fosters compassion, healing, and friendship. Tourmaline is used for grounding purposes, to stabilize and reaffirm one’s roots to Earth. Known as the “Receptive Stone” as it is soothing, calming, and promotes meditation, spirituality and wisdom. 


November: YELLOW TOPAZ
Yellow Topaz is found in shades of yellow, orange and light brown. The name Topaz comes from an ancient language which means “fire”. These stones are meant to be good luck charms for those who wear them and have linked these birthstones to people who are considered friendly and level headed. 


December: SWISS BLUE TOPAZ 
Swiss Blue Topaz is one of the world’s hardest naturally occurring gemstones and is known as the “Soothing Stone”.  Natural Topaz is colorless, however due to the presence of iron and chromium impurities cause variations in color; the blue being caused by radiation and heat. It is known as the stone of love, affection and good fortune. This stone will help wearers have a sweet disposition by releasing tensions in your mind, heart and body.
